唐山師范學院玉田分校是一所以英語教育專業為主的高等師范院校，是所具有五十多年光輝歷史的（省市直屬院校）老牌師范院校。
學校始建于1951年，原名唐山師范學校，位于唐山市古冶區高卑店。1966年遷至京津唐三角地區的中心——有麻山種玉神秘傳說的河北省玉田縣縣城。學校北靠燕山山脈，南臨京沈高速公路，鐵路橫貫境內，距離北京、天津、唐山均為百公里左右，交通十分便利。
學校占地150畝，有教學樓、音樂樓、圖書信息樓、辦公樓、實驗樓、學生宿舍樓等總建筑面積達四萬平方米。有設施齊全的教室40多個，音樂、美術專用教室10個，語音聽力教室6個，微機教室6個，觀摩教室4個，微格教室4個，全校性的階梯教室、報告廳各1個，教師專用電子備課室一個，微機管理現代化圖書館一個，師生閱覽室四個，各類藏書10萬余冊，基本實現了辦學設施的現代化。
學校環境優美、布局合理。在各類樓群中心，是一座設計精巧、湖光波影、綠草茵茵、姹紫嫣紅的中心花園。樓群北側，是一個標準的體育運動場，整個校園樓群林立，綠樹蔥蘢、花草繁茂、景色宜人，是莘莘學子讀書治學的理想園地。
學校實行校長負責制，設有辦公室、教務處、學生處、教務處、總務處、基礎教育部、專科教育部、信息中心、工會、團委等機構，現有多個教學班，在校學生2000余人。
全校師資隊伍實力雄厚、基礎扎實、業務精良。180多名教職工中，有外籍教師兩名，教授、副教授和高級講師50多名，講師80多名。其中獲省市級勞動模范、學科帶頭人、曾憲梓教育基金獎、省市級教師、模范教師、模范班主任等榮譽稱號的教師有四十多位。
突出英語教學是玉田分校的主要辦學特色，早在1978年，學校率先在全省創辦英語班，為唐秦二市培養了一屆又一屆英語教育人才，1998年，隨著改革的深入和教育形勢的飛速發展，學校總結二十年英語教學經驗的基礎上，果斷進行了專業調整，減少普師班、擴招英語班，從2001年起，除保留音樂、美術兩個特長專業班外，全部改招英語專業，現有初中起點的五年制英語專科班30多個、高中起點的兩年制英語專科班6個，名副其實地成了唐山市乃至全省培養中小學英語師資的教學基地。
學校還是唐山市中小學教師培訓基地。自1996年以來，與全國各大學聯合辦學。培訓各學科學員達3000多人次。
建校五十多年來，玉田分校一貫認真貫徹黨的教育方針，以培養德智體全面發展的合格人才為目標，以人為本，從嚴治校，嚴活結合，科學管理，加強教改，深入開展課程教學改革，廣泛開展課外活動，在訓練和提高學生們從教基本功上狠下功夫。培養出近萬名中小學合格教育人才。他們以“教學業務過硬，基本功扎實”而受到了用人單位的普遍贊揚，有些還發展到全省、全國重點大學，成了國家各校的棟梁之材。如：北大公共外語教研室主任、英國劍橋大學博士研究生導師趙揚，北方工業大學的博士生艾國，河北大學外國語學院院長李佐文，博士生北京語言大學的唐翠菊等都是從玉師這塊沃土上起步的杰出代表。近幾年來，學生就業放開，玉師英語畢業學生除到各省市里重點中學就業外，更是成了唐山、天津、北京、青島等一些新興中小學、幼兒園及企事業單位的搶手人才，連續四年，學生畢業就業率均達到了95%以上。
