廣東肇慶中學是一所歷史悠久、業績輝煌的省重點中學，坐落在風景秀麗的國家級歷史文化名城——肇慶端州。她的前身是創辦于1573年的兩廣端溪書院，1905年改為肇慶府中學堂，素有“西江高學府”之稱。1949年11月起定名為廣東肇慶中學，是全省十六所重點中學之一。以良好的校風、雄厚的師資、鮮明的特色、顯著的效益而享譽嶺南。1994年被評為首批省一級學校，1997年被確定為首批全國現代教育技術實驗學校，2002年被定為“十五”期間教育部重大教育科研基地和共青團全國青少年科技活動示范單位，2004年被定為廣東省新課程改革試驗樣本校。2007年10月，學校以等級通過廣東省普通高中教學水平評估，成為廣東省首批國家級示范性普通高中。2008年至今先后被評為“廣東省安全文明校園”、“廣東省依法治校示范校”、“廣東省書香校園”、“廣東省中小學校本培訓示范校”、“全國消防安全教育示范學校”、“廣東省青少年科學教育特色學校”、“廣東省創先爭優‘南粵先鋒’先進基層黨組織”、“廣東省德育示范學校”、“第五屆和諧校園先進學校”。

學?，F有兩個校區：老校區為初中部，位于兩廣端溪書院原址，占地36畝，建筑面積約2.4萬平方米;新校區設有高中部和新疆部，位于風景秀麗的仙女湖畔，占地247畝，建筑面積約10萬平方米。新疆部于2007年至2009年秋季每年招收2個新疆預科班，從2010年秋季開始每年招收3個新疆預科班。2009年秋季高中部開始接收國際交流生。目前，全校共有99個班(其中初中36個班，高中60個班，新疆預科班3個)，在校學生5224人，其中新疆學生455人，生1人、香港生8人，阿根廷生1人，高中部本地學生2715人，初中部學生2049人。

學校師資力量雄厚，現有教職工468人。其中特級教師3人，高級教師145人，中級教師174人，碩士研究生114人，肇慶市專業技術拔尖人才3名，省市名師培養對象一批。近年來，有100多位教師獲市級以上表彰獎勵，100多位教師獲省級以上教研成果。2009年9月，學校申報的“‘三自五修’特色育人實驗研究”項目，被評為全國教育科學“十一五”規劃2009年度教育部重點課題。
